Music
Chamber music is my all-time favourite pastime. Playing in a string quartet or quintet is a shared journey of friendship and discipline, blended with respect for the perspective of others. Just as in life, there are elements of hierarchy, choice, and harmonious balance. Age is insignificant for a 13 yr-old and an 80 yr-old can play together. What I love most of all is the conversational give-and-take of a small group where every voice must be heard. With just one player to a part, one can be a soloist one moment, a humble accompanist the next, and at other times a team player. There is really nothing quite like it!
